Strong
Demand for Four-Color Drives
Speedy Addition of Second Lithoman |
In
response to extremely strong demand, Courier is continuing the steady
expansion of its four-color capabilities with the installation of its
second MAN Roland Lithoman IV four-color press. The new press is the mirror
image of Courier's first Lithoman that began operation in April of last
year. The second press will be assembled this fall, and by the end of
the year the two presses will be operating side-by-side at Courier's facility
in Kendallville, Indiana.
The ultra-high-capacity
Lithoman has the throughput of two conventional web presses and produces
the highest quality four-color printed product. The first Lithoman enabled
Courier to meet growing demand and to continue to provide excellent service
to customers, many of whom awarded Courier with large blocks of work.
"The tremendous
response in the marketplace to the first press is extremely gratifying,"
said Peter Conway, Vice President of Sales. "Our customers are so
pleased with the product and with our commitment to four-color that they've
rewarded us with additional work. The first press is filling up much more
quickly than any of us expected. As a result, we have accelerated the
purchase and installation of the second press as much as possible."
The four-color
expansion in Kendallville is a comprehensive project involving all aspects
of the operation. In addition to the two Lithoman presses, Courier has
invested in additional plate making, additional bindery equipment, and
the construction of 50,000 square feet of paper warehouse space.
With the installation of the second Lithoman, Kendallville will have tripled
its four-color capacity in less than two years. |

To
make room for the second Lithoman, the paper and other material to
the right
of the first Lithoman in this photo will be moved to the newly constructed
50,000
square foot warehouse addition. The second press will be the mirror
image of the first.
Access to the print units of both presses will be from the common
center aisle,
and the roll stands, control rooms and deliveries will all be side
by side. |
