New Look For Fine Print Believe it or not, Fine Print begins its fourth year of publication with this issue. To mark this milestone, we've created a new and more colorful design and debuted it here as the Trade Show Issue. We hope you like the new look; we'll continue to offer the latest news about Courier and our industry in future issues of Fine Print. Book Tech West in San Francisco Three Days of Talk, Trends, and Technology Thousands of book production professionals will be in attendance at Book Tech December 13-15 in San Francisco. It's the first venture west for this important industry event. Exhibits, programs, and speakers will represent all facets of the industry, and as usual, Courier will be well represented with an exhibit booth and several speaking engagements. Here's where you can catch up with us at the show. Peter Tobin, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Courier, will speak at Session No. 1, "On-Demand Trend: Digital Short-Run Printing in Practice," at 9:00 a.m. Monday. Steve Franzino, Vice President of Technology at Courier, will speak at Session No. 5, "Briefing: Paper, PDF, E-books and New Tech Trends Update," at 1:15 p.m. Monday, and also Session No. 10, "Rethinking Archiving and Reprints in the Digital Era," at 3:00 p.m. Monday. Anyone stopping by can enter to have a chance to win a Courier Polartec fleece vest and a Courier hat. Update: Y2K at Courier by Donald Hunter, Director, Year 2000 Project Courier Corporation's Year 2000 compliance project is in its final stages. The Company's new Y2K compliant manufacturing system has now been installed at all locations and has also been successfully tested for Y2K readiness. Courier's programmable logic controllers and embedded systems located in manufacturing equipment, facility systems and telecommunications have been inventoried, assessed, remediated, tested and issued an internal certificate of compliance. Courier's Y2K Task Force continues to communicate with its third party business partners. Mission critical vendors, service providers, utilities, and our customers have advised us that they are Y2K ready. The Company is also completing its contingency plans, which include the millennium weekend rollover schedule and business continuity plans focused on maintaining an uninterrupted supply of manufactured products and service to our customers. ISO9002 at Courier Westford Courier Westford recently completed the long and intensive but immensely rewarding process of ISO9002 Certification. Mark Evans, Quality Facilitator at Westford, said, "Even though certification is a milestone event, it's only the first step in an ongoing process of improving quality." Evans, who led the project, expressed certainty that achieving and maintaining certification would improve the plant's quality, productivity and profitability. "The net result is an improvement in Courier's competitiveness in the marketplace - a win-win situation." The internal auditing process for compliance will be conducted by Westford employees in a variety of departments at the plant. External auditing and certification maintenance has been contracted through TUV Management Services. Courier Westford is the second Courier plant to become ISO9002 certified. Courier Stoughton was certified in 1995, and Ron Fandetti, Director of Quality for Courier, headed up the Stoughton project team. Fandetti also assisted with Westford's certification, as did an implementation team of department managers. Courier Kendallville is scheduled for certification in 2000. Courier People - On the Move Courier Stoughton welcomes Kathleen Terlino to their team as an Accounting Manager. Kathleen brings extensive experience in the graphic arts, as well as service skills she developed at Moore Document Solutions. Sybella Wilder has joined Courier Kendallville as Plant Manager. Sybella has over fifteen years of management experience with Quebecor Printing, where she was Operations Manager at their Lincoln plant. Marcie Marcovitz has joined the Courier team as Midwest Sales Representative. Marcie has extensive sales experience in the industry, most recently with Port City/Cadmus Mack.one." Right
