How to use this tool
- 01Choose Channel or Direct message, then enter the bot name that will post the message and, for a channel, its name.
- 02Add a header, which Slack draws as large bold text, then write the message body.
- 03Fill in up to two button labels. Keep each one short: Slack's docs say button text may truncate at about 30 characters.
- 04Upload a bot avatar if you want it in the mockup, and set the timestamp.
- 05Click Download PNG to export the channel view.

What a Slack app message is made of
Messages from a Slack app are built from Block Kit blocks. This preview draws three of them: a header block for the title, a section block for the body text, and a row of buttons underneath.
Slack documents the limits for each. A header takes plain text up to 150 characters. A section's text runs from 1 to 3,000 characters. A button label can be up to 75 characters, although Slack notes that it may truncate at around 30. The fields in this tool stop earlier (80 characters for the header, 600 for the body, 24 for a button) to keep the mockup readable.

Buttons and styles
Block Kit buttons take an optional style. Slack's reference describes primary as green and says to use it on one button in a set, and danger as red, for destructive actions only and even more sparingly. A button without a style gets the default look.
The preview draws the first button as the primary action and the second in the default style.

Sending the message from Courier
Courier's Slack integration sends through a Slack app you create, using its bot token. You can address a message to a channel, a user ID, or an email address, and design it in Courier's Slack template editor. For a channel, use its ID rather than its name.
The bot token needs the chat:write, im:write, users:read, and users:read.email scopes. Courier's docs walk through creating the app, and point to Slack's Block Kit Builder for building the block JSON itself.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How long can a Slack message header be?
A Block Kit header block takes plain text up to 150 characters, according to Slack's documentation. This tool stops at 80 to keep the mockup readable at preview size.
How many characters can a Slack button label hold?
Slack allows up to 75 characters in a button's text, and its reference adds that the text may truncate at around 30. A short verb phrase like Approve is safe at any width.
What do the primary and danger button styles do?
They recolor a button: primary is green and danger is red. Slack asks you to use them with restraint, primary on one button per set and danger only when the action is destructive. A button with no style gets the default look.
Does this preview read or produce Block Kit JSON?
No. It draws a message that looks like a Slack app post from the text you type, and it does not generate any JSON. To build and validate the blocks themselves, use Slack's Block Kit Builder.
How do I send a Slack message from Courier?
Connect a Slack app to Courier with its bot token, then address the message to a channel ID, a user ID, or an email address. Courier's Slack docs list the scopes the bot needs and the profile fields that hold the token and the target.
