MessageMedia + Courier

Turn MessageMedia SMS into multi-channel notifications

Design and automate every message with Courier. Keep MessageMedia for SMS delivery, then add push and an in-app inbox from one API.

Overview

What MessageMedia is

MessageMedia is an SMS delivery service that sends text messages to your recipients through a global carrier network.

Courier sits in front of it as one API, so you keep MessageMedia for SMS and add push, an in-app inbox, design, and journeys on top.

You need a Courier account and your own MessageMedia account (API key and API secret).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I use MessageMedia with Courier?

Yes. MessageMedia is a supported SMS provider in Courier. You add it as a channel and trigger texts through the Send API, while MessageMedia handles carrier delivery to your recipients.

Do I still need my own MessageMedia account?

Yes. Courier does not resell SMS, so you keep your own MessageMedia account. You generate the API credentials there, and your sending numbers and messaging billing stay on your MessageMedia plan.

What do I need to connect MessageMedia to Courier?

Just your MessageMedia API key and API secret, added in Courier's MessageMedia provider settings. Courier then authenticates to your account and can send SMS; optional isHmacEnabled and url fields let you turn on HMAC signing or a custom endpoint.

Where do I get my MessageMedia API key and secret?

In the MessageMedia console at hub.messagemedia.com/api-settings, create a new API key to generate your apiKey and apiSecret. Copy the secret immediately, since MessageMedia displays it once and it cannot be retrieved afterward.

What phone numbers does Courier use with MessageMedia?

Courier sends to the recipient's phone_number from their profile in international format, for example +12025550156. To control the number texts come from, set a source_number override on the message so MessageMedia sends from your chosen sender.

Can I track SMS delivery status from MessageMedia?

Yes. Configure a webhook in the MessageMedia console pointing to Courier, and delivery, failure, and rejection updates sync into Courier's Message Logs. Courier reads the messageId, status, statusCode, and receivedTimestamp fields.

Is Courier a replacement for MessageMedia?

No. MessageMedia still delivers every SMS; Courier sits in front as the orchestration layer. Through one Send API you add Design Studio content and Journeys, plus email, push, and Courier Inbox, while MessageMedia stays your SMS carrier connection.
