Overview
What Segment is
Segment is a customer data platform (CDP) that collects events and user traits from your product and streams them to the tools you use, through Identify, Track, and Group calls.
Pipe your Segment data and events into Courier, then use them to trigger notifications and kick off multi-step journeys, with no send pipeline to build or maintain.
You need a Courier account and a Segment workspace with a source already sending events.
Why Courier
What you get with Segment + Courier
Map events to notifications, no code
Add Courier as a Segment destination and your existing Track events map to notifications. No consumer or send pipeline to build.
Kick off multi-step journeys
Let a single event start an onboarding, drip, or lifecycle sequence in Courier with delays and branching, all from data you already collect.
Sync traits and profiles
Identify calls update Courier recipient profiles with names, emails, and traits, so every send has the data it needs.
Design messages without code
Compose and edit the notification content in Courier's visual editor. Product and marketing change copy without a deploy.
Reach every channel
The same event can send email, SMS, push, chat, and an in-app inbox. Add a channel when you need it, no change to your Segment setup.
Localize in seconds
Pick a language and let Courier translate the message with AI, then tweak any string. One template, every market.
How it works
How Segment connects to Courier
Courier is a Segment destination. In Segment's destination catalog you add Courier, connect your source, and paste a Courier API Key (or Auth Token) into the destination settings.
Once connected, Track events flow into Courier, where a Track event's properties become the Courier data object that triggers a notification or a journey. Identify calls keep user traits and profiles in sync.

Courier is a destination in Segment, so there is no pipeline to build. Add it once and your existing events start reaching Courier.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Segment with Courier?
Yes. Segment is a customer data platform that feeds event and profile data into Courier, so behavior tracked in your product can drive notifications and multi-step journeys across email, SMS, push, and Courier Inbox.
How do Segment events trigger notifications in Courier?
Not automatically. Segment track events must be mapped to Courier Automations, which listen for a specific event name (the event field) and send the matching notification. Identify and group calls update data but do not send on their own.
How do I connect Segment to Courier?
Add Courier as a destination in Segment's catalog, choose your data source, then paste your Courier API Key (from the Integrations page) or Auth Token (from Settings) into the destination. Use Segment's Event Tester to validate.
Which Segment call types does Courier support?
Courier supports identify, track, and group calls. Page and screen calls are not supported. Track calls carry the actions you notify on, while identify and group calls keep recipient and account data current.
How does Segment event data map to Courier notification data?
A track call's properties object maps directly into Courier's data object, so properties -> data is what your templates reference. The event arrives prefixed as track/, and the track name is available in the event field.
How do Segment identify calls update Courier recipient profiles?
Identify traits, including name and email, update the matching Courier recipient profile over time. Keep the email inside the traits object so Courier stores it correctly for use in email delivery.
Is Courier a replacement for Segment?
No. Segment collects and routes your customer data; Courier turns those events into multi-channel notifications and journeys across email, SMS, push, and Courier Inbox. They are complementary: Segment supplies the data, Courier delivers the messages.
