SendGrid + Courier

Turn SendGrid into a multi-channel notification system

Design and automate every message with Courier. Keep SendGrid for email delivery, then add SMS, push, and an in-app inbox from one API.

Overview

What SendGrid is

SendGrid, now part of Twilio, is a cloud email provider that handles email delivery at scale: sending domains, IP reputation, and analytics.

Courier sits in front of it as one API, a visual editor, journeys, and every other channel, so you keep SendGrid for delivery and build multi-channel notifications on top.

You need a Courier account and your own SendGrid account and API key.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I use SendGrid with Courier?

Yes. Courier connects to SendGrid as an email provider, so you keep SendGrid for delivery while sending through Courier's Send API. Courier adds content design, routing, and other channels on top.

Do I still need my own SendGrid account?

Yes. Courier routes email through your SendGrid account, not its own. You add your SendGrid API key in Courier, and SendGrid stays your sending infrastructure and deliverability record.

What do I need to connect SendGrid to Courier?

A SendGrid API key with Mail Send permission plus a From address. In Courier you paste the key and set that from address, and each recipient profile needs an email field for delivery.

How do I verify the From address for SendGrid in Courier?

The from address must be a verified Sender Identity in SendGrid, set up through Domain Authentication or Single Sender Verification. SendGrid rejects sends from unverified senders, so verify before your first Courier send.

How does Courier track SendGrid delivery status?

Two ways: polling, the default, which needs SendGrid's email activity history, or a webhook where SendGrid posts status to a Courier-provided URL. For webhooks, enable all five Deliverability Data events in SendGrid.

Can I import my SendGrid templates into Courier?

Yes. Templates saved as SendGrid Dynamic Templates can be imported from Courier's SendGrid configuration page and picked via checkboxes. This needs an API key with full Template Engine access.

Is Courier a replacement for SendGrid?

No. Courier sits in front of SendGrid, which still delivers your email. Courier adds the Send API, Journeys, and Design Studio, plus SMS, push, and Courier Inbox on one API.
