Overview
What Mailgun is
Mailgun is an email delivery service that lets you send messages programmatically through verified sending domains.
Courier sits in front of it as one API, a visual editor, journeys, and every other channel, so you keep Mailgun for delivery and build multi-channel notifications on top.
You need a Courier account and your own Mailgun account with an API key and a verified sending domain.
Why Courier
What you get with Mailgun + Courier
Design beautiful emails, no code
Build and edit email in Courier's visual editor. Product and marketing change content and layout without shipping code, then send through Mailgun.
Automate multi-step journeys
Onboarding, drip, and lifecycle sequences with delays and branching, all delivered through your Mailgun sending domain.
Add SMS, push, and chat
The same notification can reach every channel. Add one when you need it, with no new integration in your code.
Add an in-app inbox
A new, easy add-on: drop Courier Inbox into your web or mobile app so users get an in-product notification center alongside email.
Localize a template in seconds

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Mailgun with Courier?
Yes. Courier routes your transactional email through Mailgun as the delivery provider, so Mailgun keeps sending the email while Courier handles content, routing, and other channels from a single Send API call.
Do I still need my own Mailgun account?
Yes. Courier does not resell Mailgun, so you connect your own account, and its sending domain must be verified with a valid MX record in DNS or Mailgun returns 550 errors.
What do I need to connect Mailgun to Courier?
On Courier's Mailgun integration page you enter three values: your Mailgun API key, the verified sending domain, and a default From address. That is all Courier needs to start sending.
Which Mailgun region does Courier send through?
US by default. If your domain lives in Mailgun's EU region, set the host to api.eu.mailgun.net in the integration settings so Courier calls the correct Mailgun endpoint.
How does Courier track Mailgun delivery status?
By polling Mailgun automatically by default. For real-time updates, configure Mailgun webhooks for Delivered Messages and Permanent Failure events using Courier's webhook URL, then disable polling after about an hour.
Can I send attachments or pass Mailgun-specific options?
Yes. Attach base64-encoded files with a filename and contentType, and use the override object to pass Mailgun parameters like tags. Both reach Mailgun without leaving Courier's Send API.
Is Courier a replacement for Mailgun?
No. Courier sits in front of Mailgun, which still delivers every email. Courier adds the Send API, Journeys, and Design Studio, plus other channels like SMS, push, and Courier Inbox.
