Overview
What SparkPost is
SparkPost is an email delivery service that sends email programmatically through its Transmissions API, with sending domains, deliverability tooling, and analytics.
Courier sits in front of it as one API, a visual editor, journeys, and every other channel, so you keep SparkPost for delivery and build multi-channel notifications on top.
You need a Courier account and your own SparkPost account and API key.
Why Courier
What you get with SparkPost + Courier
Design beautiful emails, no code
Build and edit email in Courier's visual editor. Product and marketing change content and layout without shipping code, then send through SparkPost.
Automate multi-step journeys
Onboarding, drip, and lifecycle sequences with delays and branching, all delivered through SparkPost.
Add SMS, push, and chat
The same notification can reach every channel. Add one when you need it, with no new integration in your code.
Add an in-app inbox
A new, easy add-on: drop Courier Inbox into your web or mobile app so users get an in-product notification center alongside email.
Localize a template in seconds

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can I use SparkPost with Courier?
Yes. SparkPost works as an email delivery provider inside Courier. You build and send your notifications through Courier while SparkPost handles the actual email delivery, and Courier layers content design and multichannel routing on top.
Do I still need my own SparkPost account?
Yes. Courier does not resell SparkPost, so you keep your own SparkPost account. Your sending domains, sender reputation, and deliverability stay managed in SparkPost; Courier authenticates to that account and sends your email through it.
What do I need to connect SparkPost to Courier?
A SparkPost API key and a From Address. On the SparkPost integration page in Courier's catalog, enter the API key and From Address, then click Save. After that Courier sends email through your SparkPost account.
What permissions does the SparkPost API key need?
The key must have Transmissions: Read/Write permissions. Courier posts to SparkPost's Transmissions API to send each message, so a key created without that permission will fail to deliver.
How does Courier know which email address to send to?
Each recipient needs an email address in the email field of their Courier profile. That field is mandatory for SparkPost delivery, and Courier reads it at send time to address the message.
Can I add attachments or other SparkPost fields to a message?
Yes. Use a provider override on message.providers.sparkpost.override to replace or extend what Courier sends to SparkPost's Transmissions API. This lets you add attachments and other Transmissions fields SparkPost supports.
Is Courier a replacement for SparkPost?
No. Courier sits in front of SparkPost, which still delivers your email. Courier adds the Send API, Journeys, and Design Studio, plus SMS, push, and Courier Inbox on one API.
