Overview
What Mandrill is
Mandrill is Mailchimp's transactional email service that sends emails programmatically through an API, with sending domains, deliverability, and analytics.
Courier sits in front of it as one API, a visual editor, journeys, and every other channel, so you keep Mandrill for delivery and build multi-channel notifications on top.
You need a Courier account and your own Mandrill account and API key.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Mandrill with Courier?
Yes. Courier sends email through Mandrill (Mailchimp Transactional) while you design and route the message. You keep Mandrill as the delivery provider and add it as an email channel in Courier's Send API and Journeys.
Do I still need my own Mandrill account?
Yes. Courier does not resell Mandrill, so you bring your own Mailchimp Transactional account and API key. Your sending domain, reputation, and click-tracking settings stay in Mandrill; Courier authenticates as you to hand off each message.
What do I need to connect Mandrill to Courier?
A Mandrill API key generated from the Mandrill Settings page, plus a From Address and From Name entered on the Courier Mandrill integration page. Enter them, click Save, and recipient profiles need an email field to receive messages.
Can I import my existing Mandrill templates into Courier?
Yes. On the Mandrill configuration page in Courier, your saved Mandrill templates appear as selectable checkboxes. Pick the ones to import using your Mailchimp Transactional credentials, then continue editing them in Courier's Design Studio.
Does Courier track opens and clicks from Mandrill?
Yes, if click tracking is enabled under Mandrill Settings, Sending defaults. Open and click status updates can arrive with some delay. You can review delivery and provider errors in Courier's platform logs and analytics.
How do I add attachments, CC, or BCC on a Mandrill email?
Use the providers.mandrill.override object to customize the request sent to Mandrill's Messages API. Attachments, CC, and BCC live here; CC and BCC need preserve_recipients: true, and merge variables nest inside the message struct.
Is Courier a replacement for Mandrill?
No. Mandrill still delivers the email; Courier sits in front of it. Courier adds the Send API, Journeys, and Design Studio, plus SMS, push, and Courier Inbox, so you orchestrate Mandrill as one channel among many.
